The oldest annual art book 1940-2023

“L’Atlante dell’Arte Contemporanea” was the first edition of an art book dating back to 1940, the oldest illustrated periodical specializing in the art market.

Today, with the name of “Atlante dell’Arte Contemporanea” and a new graphic design, the publication is a leader in the sector, the privileged reference for gallery owners, collectors and amateurs who know how to appreciate quality art.

The long history, 83 years of publications, was the reason why the book changed the name of “Atlante”, to recall that mythological figure capable of supporting important and authoritative art: 1000 folders of artists and as many mailing lists of studies professional; 1600 auction results.

THE ART AT THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF NEW YORK

The 2023/2024 edition of the “Atlante dell’Arte Contemporanea” will be presented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in the Bonnie J. Sacerdote Lecture Hall.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art, also known as “The Met”, is among the most important museums in the world, established in 1870 in New York, in the United States. This will be a unique opportunity to bring international art in direct comparison with the masterpieces of Botticelli, Caravaggio, Titian, Raphael, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Renoir, Van Gogh, Vermeer, Manet, Dalì, Pollock, Rothko just to name a few of the artists present in the permanent collections of the famous American museum.

The presentation at the Metropolitan Museum will give international prestige to the publication which will be enriched with insights and essays in English.

THE SENATE OF THE ITALIAN REPUBLIC CELEBRATES THE “ATLANTE DELL’ARTE CONTEMPORANEA”

The presentation of the volume, in 2024, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York confirms a unique and unrepeatable step in the history of publishing and modern art. For this reason “L’Atlante dell’Arte Contemporanea” was considered by the Senate of the Republic as a publication that was born in Italy to promote culture and art in the world.

On 9 February 2023, the Vice-President of the Senate organized the conference entitled “1940-2023 more than eighty years of history of the Atlas of Contemporary Art” in the Sala Capitolare. The conference was called to give attention to the historic publication, excellence of national and international artistic identity.

“ATLANTE DELL’ARTE CONTEMPORANEA”: THE ONLY BOOK PRESENT AT THE VENICE BIENNALE

The Venice Biennale remains the most important art event in Italy and among the most important art exhibitions in the world. The “Atlante dell’Arte Contemporanea” is present in the Book Pavilion of the Venice Biennale. The structure (Book Pavilion), designed by J.Stirlig and inaugurated in 1991, is located on the side of the north-south access axis to the Gardens. The Book Pavilion is a space where the most authoritative publications in the world are presented.

EDITORIAL PROPOSAL

The folder dedicated to each artist treated consists of a biography with the following
information: name, surname, place, date of birth, contacts (office or home address, e-mail); web (official site); references (reference galleries).

The artistic techniques used (oil, acrylic, marble, analogue photography, etc.) and the relative genre (figurative, abstract, conceptual, etc.) are also included. Each artist’s folder also has a critical text with photographs of the works and artistic production.

Insights

International section

At the opening of the volume, there will be a section dedicated to the greatest national and international artists who have revolutionized the history of the second half of the twentieth century up to the present day, analyzed through special insights.

From Andy Warhol to Frida Kahlo, from Basquiat to Arte Povera to the Transavanguardia, up to the contemporaries Maurizio Cattelan, Jeff Koons and Marina Abramović, just to name a few. In this section unique personalities will be analysed, who conceive art as “alive” since it is linked to life itself.

Manifestos and Art Movements

A special section will have, in addition to the main Art Movements of the last century, also the more recent contemporary artistic currents, with analysis and description of the inspiring principles and with photos.

TO ENTER THE ART MARKET

Each artist will be analyzed in a specific section dedicated to the “Market Indices” with information on: Quotations, Unsold Works, Extension, Range, Capital Gain, Trend and an Evaluation by the Scientific Committee. In this regard, the volume proves to be indispensable for collectors and the art market. Auction results, record prices, primary and secondary market evaluations will offer a specific and detailed analysis for each cataloged artist.
